A few things broke. udevd would run wild. Killing it and restarting it would return it to proper behaviour, but I had to remove a few packages to stop it going wild again on a reboot.

I am still having problems with gnome-settings-daemon not starting when I log in. It appears that this is a problem that has come and gone for a number of reasons in the past. Unfortunately none of the past fixes are helping me. I will leave it a few more days and see if the problem goes away as we get closer to a final release.
